Paul Seddon is the owner of Seddon Costs Law.  He is a qualified and regulated independent costs lawyer based in Essex near London, with clients across England and Wales.

Paul has worked in legal services for over 20 years, most of which he has spent practising costs law. He spent many years working in-house at law firms in London, running legal accounts before training as a law costs draftsman. This experience gave him a solid understanding of how his clients’ businesses operate and the pressures they face, including those holding legal aid contracts.

Paul has extensive experience across costs law including litigation funding (both receiving and paying party) and costs budgets in the Chancery Division.  He has dealt with cases at every level right up to the Supreme Court. He authors and delivers training to solicitors, barristers and fellow costs professionals on key aspects of procedure and case law.  His clients range from private law firms to law centres, Citizens Advice Bureaux and local authorities.

Paul is a national expert in costs for civil legal aid: he authored the chapter on costs for civil work in the Legal Aid Handbook (commonly referred to as ‘the bible on legal aid’), he sits on the advisory committee of the Legal Aid Practitioners Group, is a former chair of the ACL’s Legal Aid Group and a continuing member of its executive committee.

Paul is one of only a handful of cost lawyers to be ranked in Chambers Guides. Chambers is one of the most renowned legal directories in the world, marking out those ranked as leading in client service, industry understanding and of course technical knowledge.

As a certified costs lawyer, Paul is a member of the profession’s representative body, the Association of Costs Lawyers.  As such, Paul has access to education, training and a nationwide professional network upon which to draw.
